Who Is Sen. Jeremiah Kpan Koung
Senator Koung was born unto the union of Mr Adam Sunday Koung and Mrs Esther Markar Koung in Yekepa, Nimba County on March 17, 1978.
Early Education
Senator Koung (now) started his primary education at Area “C” School in 1981 in Yekepa Nimba. And in 1983 he moved to Ganta at which time his father was redundant from LIMCO.
However, he stayed with father and continued his academy sojourn at the Karlay School in the same year. And from 1984-1985, he matriculate to Gbeiselah Wuo Town, Rehab Public School where tuition and fees were affordable.
Primary Education and Life’s Start-Up
In 1986, he moved to Buchana to stay with his Aunt in search of support to continue his primary education and was enrolled at the New Hope Church School. In 1987 he transferred to Demonstration Public School in Buchana Grand Bassa. One year late, in 1988, he enrolled at the W. P. L Bromskin United Methodist School where he remained until the Fall of Buchana in 1990.
During the heat of the war and being homeless as a result of the war when he could not locate his aunt, he got involved in petit business mainly, fish selling as a means for survival.
It was at this early childhood life that Senator Koung developed his business career.
His experience of hard struggle forced him at age 12 to move to Yekepa in 1992 in search of his biological parents but found only his father.
He spent two years with his father and later travelled to the Republic of Guinea in search of his mother and siblings at the Ballah Refugee Camp.
He remained at the camp until 1995. In 1996, he returned to Ganta, when he was distressed of refugee life.
Secondary Education
While in Ganta his thirst for education continued to grow. By 1996, he enrolled at the Christian high school and in 1997 he continued his education at the Yini High School where he stayed and graduated in 2000-2001 academic year. After the completion of secondary school, Senator Koung began to invest more of his time into businesses.
He started with selling medicines in Buckets to the establishment of Real Estate including Frozen food, Pharmaceutical stores, Sale and transportation of petroleum, General mechanise, building materials and etc. He is an enterprising and successful businessman with huge experience business development and management.
In 2006, and being uncertified with his academic qualifications, he matriculated at the Cuttington University in Suakoko, Bong County and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration in 2009-2010 academy year.
At the end of his studies, he served as president for the graduating class, one of prestigious roles that sparked his leadership potentials.
After graduation, while operating his businesses, Senator Koung was encouraged by his business peers to contest for the representative seat when he demonstrated proximate leadership while serving as the Credit Manager for the Ganta United Brothers Credit Union (GUBC).
The credit union is one of the biggest crediting institutions in Nimba.
In 2011, he finally made the determination to join the national politics. He contested in that same for the representative seat in District#1, Nimba County and was overwhelming elected representative in 2011.
